The 'unseen' Duel at Jinsha Lake
The Golfing silly season is truly upon us with big money limited field, exhibitions, not to mention the odd duel happening all over the far east of Asia.
The 'Duel' between Mcilroy and Woods was set up as a pay per view event through various media outlets in Australia with the main site golf.com.au hosting the live feed for a cost of $4.50 to eager punters all over the world.
I have to say I was more than a little tempted to cough up my hard earned cash and watch the superstars of golf go at it.
Thankfully I held back, This was after logging onto the site and seeing a barrage of complaints on their 'live chat' facility that the website had set-up in anticipation golf fans drooling over the duel.
I'm sure they did not expect them to complaining about not seeing the duel. Most people either couldn't see the live pictures or some lucky ones who did get the live only to find the commentary was in Mandarin.
What could have been the start to a ground breaking, revolutionary way for golf fans across the world to viewing 'special events' or even normal events via the net turned into what can only be described as bit of a disaster for www.rivustv.com, the hosting company providing the infrastructure to send this out to millions on the net via various australian news media outlets, golf.com.au, news.com.au and affiliated networks.
The questions has to be asked - why didn't they test the set-up throughly at an earlier time? As by the time they seemed to have fixed their problems the match was well into the first hour and with the pace Rory and Tiger both play that meant at least a third of the round was over and the intial excitement, pomp and ceremony was gone forever.
I'm not sure if they have offered refunds to customers but I'm sure next time one of these special 'pay per view' events is presented the customer will not be so quick in handing over their well earnt cash until they are sure the feed and commentary are all in correct and working order.
I for one have a regular golf feed that I use and is very reliable and should anybody want it - please feel free to contact me.
